Tax, precept and budget

Included in your council tax bill is an amount shown as "Parish Purposes" and you may be wondering why you have to pay it.  This is called a 'precept' and is money which will be spent by the parish council during the next financial year on it's various responsibilities and projects for the good of the parish and residents.

The parish council has set it's spending budget for the next financial year at the annual parish meeting.  The amount specified is received from Milton Keynes Council, who in turn collect it from resident's council tax bills.

Walton Parish Council considers our precept amount to be more than reasonable for a parish of our size and diversity and is proud that for financial year 2011-12, out of the parishes that collect a precept, ours was the lowest in Milton Keynes at just £4.60 per household for the year.

To view a breakdown of the budget and precept for 2011-12, please see this document.
